HISTORY
Established in 1949, the State Railway Construction Enterprise No. 4 was renamed in 1953, at the request of the Ministry of Infrastructure, to the Railway Electrification Construction Enterprise (PKRE). The company expanded its activities beyond railway works to include the construction and installation of traction systems on sections such as: Warsaw – Poznań; Gliwice – Pyskowice – Opole – Wrocław; Silesia – the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia; Poznań – Szczecin; and the Central Railway Main Line (CMK, 1971–1976).
In 1981, PKRE was incorporated into the PKP structure under the name Polish State Railways – Railway Electrification Works Department. During this period, the company carried out works related to:
the electrification of the Oder River line Wrocław – Głogów – Zielona Góra – Rzepin – Kostrzyn – Szczecin Główny; the completion of electrification on the east–west transit line; and electrification of the Poznań – Piła railway line.
In 1994, the PKP Railway Electrification Works Department (ZKRE) was transformed by a resolution of the Council of Ministers into the Railway Electrification Construction Enterprise in order to contribute shares to national investment funds.
In 1995, as part of further restructuring, PP PKRE was transformed into a joint-stock company whose shares were acquired by the National Investment Fund. In 2004, the NFI sold its shares to Trakcja Polska. Between 2004 and 2005, ZKRE and PRKiI (Railway and Engineering Construction Enterprise) became part of Trakcja Polska.
Between 2005 and 2007, Trakcja Polska acquired a strategic investor – the Spanish company COMSA. In 2007, PRK 7 S.A. merged with Trakcja Polska, and the name was changed to Trakcja Polska S.A. In 2008, the company debuted on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Between 2007 and 2009, Trakcja Polska acquired the Communication Construction Enterprise – 7 S.A. and PRK-7 Nieruchomości sp. z o.o. In 2011, Trakcja Polska established the Tiltra Group and changed its name to Trakcja – Tiltra S.A.
From 2013 to 2020, the company operated under the name Trakcja PRKiI, and in July 2020 it adopted its current name, Trakcja S.A.
The Trakcja Capital Group includes:
- AB Kauno Tiltai (based in Lithuania);
- PRK 7 Nieruchomości sp. z o.o.;
- Torprojekt sp. z o.o.;
- Przedsiębiorstwo Eksploatacji Ulic i Mostów sp. z o.o.;
- Platforma Działalności Międzynarodowej S.A.
In June 2022, Trakcja S.A. increased its share capital through the issuance of shares, all of which were acquired by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., as a result of which, in August 2022, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. took control of the Trakcja Group, becoming the parent entity of Trakcja S.A.
