HISTORY

The history of Trakcja S.A. dates to 1949, when the Państwowe Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Kolejowych nr 4 (State Railway Works Enterprise No. 4) began its operations. In 1953, as the scope of its activity expanded, the company changed its name to the Przedsiębiorstwo Kolejowych Robót Elektryfikacyjnych (Railway Electrification Works Company). Since then, the company has developed its competences in railway works and, in the construction, and installation of traction infrastructure.

In the following decades, the company was involved in major railway projects in Poland, including lines linking Warsaw with Poznań, Poznań with Szczecin, Gliwice, Pyskowice and Opole with Wrocław, the route linking Silesia with the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia, as well as in the construction of the Central Rail Line.

In 1981, the Railway Electrification Works Company became part of the Polskie Koleje Państwowe (Polish State Railways, PKP) as the Zakład Kolejowych Robót Elektryfikacyjnych (Railway Electrification Works Plant). During this period, the company carried out works related, among other things, to the electrification of the Oder River trunk line, the east-west transit main line and the Poznań - Piła railway line.

In the 1990s, the company underwent a transformation in terms of its organisation and ownership. In 1995, it was transformed into a joint-stock company. In the following years, together with the development of Trakcja Polska, the consolidation of execution, design and technical competences within one infrastructure group began.

In 2008, the company made its debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. From 2013 to 2020, it operated under the name Trakcja PRKiI (Trakcja Railway and Engineering Works Enterprise), and since July 2020 it has operated under its current name, Trakcja S.A.

Currently, the Trakcja Group consists of:

  • AB Kauno Tiltai, with its registered office in Lithuania;
  • PRK 7 Nieruchomości sp. z o.o.;
  • Torprojekt sp. z o.o.;
  • Przedsiębiorstwo Eksploatacji Ulic i Mostów sp. z o.o.;
  • Platforma Działalności Międzynarodowej S.A.

In 2022, following an increase in share capital and the subscription of shares by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., PKP PLK S.A. took control of the Trakcja Group, becoming the parent entity of Trakcja S.A.
